Associate Designer

Associate Designer

Friday, 30 October 2020, 5.00pm

Prime Cut Productions is seeking an Associate Designer, supported through the Weston Jerwood Creative Bursary 2020-22 programme.

This role is designed for someone at the beginning of their artistic career, with experience in the workplace since leaving school, in any capacity. It is focused on people that have faced barriers to an artistic career because of their background or circumstances.

Job overview:
To work alongside the Creative Director in the planning and delivery of all aspects of visual, scenic and lighting design in relation to Prime Cuts 2021-22 Creative Programme and to work alongside Prime Cut’s Reveal Programme Artists to support this aspect of their work.

Roles and Responsibilities:
Under normal circumstances, the key roles and responsibilities of the Associate Designer would take place primarily at the Prime Cut Office and Reveal Space in addition to the venues we are presenting in. However, due to the ongoing changing circumstances we find ourselves, the successful candidate will need to be able to be responsive and adaptive in the way we design and develop our 2021-22 creative programme; this may include working remotely and/or from home.

There are two parts to the Design Process
Development and Delivery.
• Development will involve working closely with Prime Cut Productions Creative Director and Creative Team responding to the creative programme, engaging with the artistic team and generating creative responses to each individual project. This will include gathering research, attending design meetings, working with story/mood boards, assisting individual project designers, sourcing quotes for specific equipment and/or elements of the design.

• Delivery: Generally development will happen in office hours and environment while delivery happens during the production period which will include attending rehearsals, technical get ins, all practical aspects of assembling a production and presenting the work. Each project is different and the process will change to suit the needs of each one. For example, the hours may increase and when this happens, Prime Cut operates a Time Off In Lieu policy if hours over and above the stated amount are worked. Delivery will take place in a variety of spaces and sites, specific to the need to each project to include outdoor and indoor work in addition to theatres, studios and other locations. We are anticipating that productions may include both online and live performances.

We are looking for people who are creative, hard-working, proactive, passionate and who would really love a career in theatre design. We want to meet people who can inspire us, help us to see things differently and bring a different point of view. This will not necessarily be about your education to date, but your experience of the world and desire to grow artistically.
