"To a Child Dancing in the Wind" - Trio Táin and Catherine Redding

"To a Child Dancing in the Wind" - Trio Táin and Catherine Redding

Sunday, 10 April 2022, 4.00pm

In February 1894, in a little room at the top of a tenement house in Paris, a young W.B.Yeats met the inimitable Paul Verlaine. This singular meeting of these two remarkable poets is the inspiration behind Trio Tain's programme of works by Tavener, Debussy and Faure.

In Verlaine’s poetry, Impressionism found its poetic embodiment and he was hailed the originator of symbolism; a pillar of 19th century French poetry. WB Yeats is widely regarded as one of the greatest poets of the 20th century and was awarded the Nobel prize “for his always inspired poetry, which in a highly artistic form gives expression to the spirit of a whole nation".

The song cycle ‘To a Child Dancing In the Wind’ represents a rare departure from John Tavener’s choral, liturgical works which formed the bulk of his prolific output. In Tavener’s own words; "the frailty, tenderness, and spiritual transparency of Yeats' poetry" inspired him to compose it.

Trio Tain is a new trio consisting of Wicklow based harpist Aisling Ennis with flautist Vourneen Ryan and violist Robin Panter. They are proud to collaborate with Wicklow based soprano, Catherine Redding to realise this exquisite programme. The concert will explore settings of Yeats and Verlaine’s poetry in new arrangements for Soprano, Flute, Viola and Harp. Funded with thanks to Wicklow Arts Office.

Sunday 10th April 2022 @ 4pm (doors 3pm). Tickets €18/€16 available at www.whaletheatre.ie or call the booking office on 01 2010550
