The Department of Music at the University of Southampton are seeking a permanent part time (0.5 FTE, 17.5 hours a week) Senior Teaching Fellow in Music Management from 1 September 2022 to complement the energetic and collaborative team delivering our MA International Music Management. You will join a vibrant academic community in the Department of Music at Southampton, a centre of exceptional research and teaching in musicology, ethnomusicology, performance, music therapy, composition, music technology and music business. Since this is a part time role you will be encouraged and supported to continue professional activities, or indeed other commitments, alongside your work at the University.

You may hold a PhD in a relevant field or be able to demonstrate equivalent professional qualifications/career experience relating to the practices of music management through a track record of industry experience. You will likely have considerable higher education teaching and/or mentoring experience as well as substantial knowledge and understanding of, and/or recent experience of working within, the international music industry (understood in the broadest sense). You should have a command of the music business academic literature.

You will contribute to modules focused on music management fundamentals and the global music industry and supervise undergraduate and postgraduate projects focused on a wide range of music industry related topic, which might include: media history and theory; arts policy and cultural economics; technical innovation including impacts of web and data revolutions; art music institutions; branding and marketing; artist compensation and music industry sustainability (for instance in relation to Covid-19, economic inequality or the climate emergency).

You will have experience of delivering innovative teaching and a willingness to work collaboratively to enrich our curriculum in ways that embody values of respect, curiosity and sustainability. You will have excellent communication skills as well as the capability to teach in a multi-disciplinary environment, presenting lectures, taking seminars and delivering tutorials to students from a variety of backgrounds. You will have the ability to adapt to different teaching approaches suitable for an effective international student learning experience. You will collaborate to develop, shape and innovate our music business curriculum.
