Music Current 2021 Commission

Music Current 2021 Commission

Friday, 17 December 2021 (All day)

MUSIC CURRENT FESTIVAL offers an annual commission to one of the festival's participating composers. This year we extend that opportunity and now invite composers, performers, sound artists and music technologists to make proposals for a creative engagement with Music Current Festival.

Proposals may be for any type of creative engagement with the festival so, for example, this could include: a composer proposing a new work; a performer developing a new concert programme; a sound artist devising an installation or event; a music technologist collaborating with an instrumentalist to develop a new performance piece. We ask only that the outcome of the engagement should result in some public manifestation at MUSIC CURRENT FESTIVAL 2022, Project Arts Centre, Dublin, 19-23 April 2022. Dublin Sound Lab can assist with technical resources and can make available one instrumentalist (flute, clarinet, violin, cello or piano) and one computer-music assistant.

Dublin Sound Lab directors will select proposals according to flexible criteria, including consideration of who might benefit or contribute most through engagement with the festival over an extended period. One applicant will be offered an award of €3,600. The awardee will work closely with Dublin Sound Lab until April 2022, or later with agreement, and may be invited to give public presentations on their work or contribute to outreach, mentoring, or other professional development programmes in collaboration with our production partners.

Additionally, as many as eight other applicants will be offered a festival pass for Music Current 2022 and will be invited to attend all festival concerts, and to take part in workshops, round-table discussions, masterclasses and open rehearsals at Project Arts Centre, Dublin.

Please submit your proposal using the link the festival website before 17 December 2021. You will be asked to supply contact details, biographic information and a description of your proposal. Selected applicants will be notified by 7 January 2022.
Music Current Festival does not offer any scholarships, travel bursaries, accommodation, or assistance with travel arrangements, but attendees based in Ireland can apply to the Contemporary Music Centre for a bursary to cover accommodation during the festival and travel costs within the island of Ireland.
