Scott Flanigan Trio & Ant Law

Saturday, 6 May 2023, 8.30pm

IMC 30/30 Artist Scott Flanigan and his Trio along with Ant Law take to the stage in the famous Arthur's Jazz Club on May 6th.

Hailing from Belfast in Northern Ireland, Scott Flanigan is one of the foremost keyboard players on the Irish jazz scene. He performs regularly across the United Kingdom, Ireland and Europe, and has recently collaborated with Van Morrison, the Ulster Orchestra, Rob Luft, Jim Mullen and Linley Hamilton. As a leader, Scott successfully tours his own contemporary piano trio, as well as a hard-swinging organ quartet. He also runs the successful Scott’s Jazz Club in East Belfast, a weekly jazz club bringing the best in Irish jazz to local audiences.

Flanigan’s second release as a leader follows the 2015 recording ‘Point Of Departure’, acclaimed for both its original compositions and reworked standards. For this 2022 release, Clouded Lines, Flanigan is joined by London-based guitarist Ant Law, alongside the Irish rhythm section powerhouse of Dave Redmond on bass and Kevin Brady on drums.

The music featured on this record was a co-commission by Belfast-based Moving On Music in conjunction with the PRS Foundation. Flanigan states;

“Since my last record, I’ve taken time to reflect on my craft, explore wider influences, and collaborate with other musicians. Ant Law’s fiery guitar lines perfect complement the music and capture exactly the sound I had in my head. Dave Redmond and Kevin Brady, on bass and drums respectively, are musicians who I’ve performed with frequently, and every time I play with them we connect in ways that enhances every part of the music”.

This release, therefore, signifies a considerable leap by Flanigan as pianist, composer, and collaborator, and represents a landmark release within Irish and UK jazz today.

This Dublin date in Arthur's presented by IMC is part of an island-wide tour.
