We are delighted to announce this special Camerata Ireland concert featuring Barry Douglas alongside Dmitri Sitkovetsky, violin, Marc Coppey, cello to close our Spring Chamber Series.

Mozart’s Piano Concerto was written a short while before the premiere of his amazing Marriage of Figaro. Beethoven’s two works are so different - the 2nd Piano Concerto harks back to the past but with Beethoven’s innovative flourishes everywhere - and his Triple Concerto shows the virtuosity of 3 instruments, especially the cello.

This is a cultural snapshot of a breath-taking burst of creative activity. What a time in which to live! These three pieces of music, written in a short period between 1786 and 1803 are all so individual and unique. They show creative imaginations which are absolutely dazzling.

A renaissance man and a magnetic creative force, Dmitry Sitkovetsky is recognised throughout the world for his versatility - violinist, conductor, creator, recording artist, transcriber, and facilitator. He has made a considerable impact on musical society. Over the four decades since the launch of his career in Vienna’s Musikverein in 1979, Dmitry Sitkovetsky has formed close relationships and has worked with many of the world’s great conductors and orchestras – Sir Neville Marriner, Mariss Jansons, Sir Colin Davis, Berlin Philharmonic, Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, London Symphony Orchestra.

Marc Coppey is considered to be one of the world’s leading cellists – in addition, now with a growing reputation as a fine conductor on the international podium. A protégé of Lord Yehudi Menuhin and Mstislav Rostropovich, Coppey first shot to international acclaim at the age of 18, winning First Prize and ‘Prize for the Best Bach Performance’ at the prestigious Leipzig Bach Competition (1988). Soon thereafter, he made major debuts in Paris and Moscow in collaboration with Yehudi Menuhin and Victoria Postnikova (captured on film by the celebrated director Bruno Monsaingeon), and performed at the Evian Festival by personal invitation of Mstislav Rostropovich. Since then, Coppey has carved out an impressive solo career to date, working regularly with many of the world’s finest orchestras and conductors – including, amongst others, Alain Altinoglu, Lionel Bringuier, Lawrence Foster, Alan Gilbert, Kirill Karabits, Emmanuel Krivine, John Nelson, Pascal Rophé, Yan Pascal Tortelier, and Yutaka Sado. He was made Officier des Arts et des Lettres by the French Cultural Ministry in 2014.

Camerata Ireland was founded and established in 1999 by international pianist, conductor, educator and recording artist Barry Douglas. His vision was to create a chamber orchestra of excellence to match the best in the world. Camerata Ireland brings together the finest Irish musicians to celebrate the wealth of musical talent from within the island of Ireland and it has given performances throughout the USA, Europe, South America and Asia.
