For over 165 years, Cork Opera House has been part of the cultural fabric of Cork city. As one of Ireland’s leading and unique performing arts venues, it presents 270-300 shows per year and attracts over 200,000 patrons with a busy programme of both visiting performances and in-house productions. Cork Opera House is looking for a suitable candidate to join its Production Department as Production Assistant. 

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Act as Assistant Producer for the Cork Opera House Panto, working closely with the Senior Producer, Show Director and Creative team in delivering Cork Opera House’s annual Panto.
  • Assist in the management of the communication about the COH Panto across all show departments and in-house departments ensuring appropriate levels of communication on all matters pertaining to a successful show.
  • Assist the Senior Producer to identify when and where further production capacity is required and source and hire where necessary (within the constraints of the budget).
  • Assist with the contracting of all show personnel and creative teams, working in close consultation with the Senior Producer.
  • Assist with the production of the Cork Opera House Summer Show.
  • Manage communication around the technical rehearsals and where possible manage an in-house producer presence throughout.
  • Be present for dress rehearsals and opening night.
  • Maintain contact with key people for the duration of the show’s run (i.e. Stage Manager, Director, Music Director, Principles) and be available for decisions and issues relating to illness, understudies etc.
  • Work closely with the Marketing Department to ensure that marketing objectives relating to in-house productions are being met in timely manner.
  • Work with the Finance Manager to ensure that creative team, cast and crew are paid correctly and in a timely manner.
  • Establishing schedules and plans to support the artistic vision of Cork Opera House.
  • Being the key point of contact for stage management, creative teams and cast throughout pre-production rehearsals, technical rehearsals, previews and runs of the Panto and Summer Show.
  • Deliver projects within budget, working closely with the Senior Producer.
  • Assist with the production of the in-house produced concert series.
  • All other reasonable duties pertaining to in-house productions, as requested by the Senior Producer.

  • Finely honed communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively across all department is essential. 

Knowledge, Experience & Skills Required:

  • Highly proficient computer skills including word processing and spreadsheet software.
  • Excellent organizational and planning skills.
  • Ability to handle varied levels of multi‐tasking and to adapt to rapidly changing environments.
  • Working knowledge of theatrical, film, and/or production procedures and practices and eagerness to apply that knowledge. 
  • Experience of working with various artists and creatives.

Organisation:

This position reports directly to the Senior Producer.
