Programme Manager, National Youth Folk Ensemble

The English Folk Dance and Song Society (EFDSS) is seeking an experienced and skilled music education manager for the position of Programme Manager for the National Youth Folk Ensemble. This is a key role within the EFDSS Education team and will be responsible for the development and delivery of the National Youth Folk Ensemble programme across England. The Programme Manager will oversee the artistic team and pastoral team during residential courses and provide pastoral support to young musicians.

Working with the Education Director, the Programme Manager will contribute to strategies and plans to develop EFDSS’ national education programme, including contributing to Arts Council England’s Inclusivity and Relevance Principle, which incorporates the Creative Case for Diversity. Key responsibilities for the role include developing and implementing the delivery plan for the National Youth Folk Ensemble, developing partnerships with music hubs, arts organisations, and schools, supporting participants during and beyond the programme, managing the programme budget, and identifying, recruiting, contracting, and supervising folk music educators, trainees, consultants, freelancers, and staff to deliver the programme.

The Programme Manager will also be responsible for ensuring that monitoring statistics and evaluative data are effectively gathered, analyzed, and shared, effective planning is in place for all projects delivered as part of this programme, and for writing and producing documentary and evaluation reports for EFDSS, partner organizations, and funders. Additionally, the Programme Manager will contribute to the development and production of EFDSS Education resources, including films and online learning materials for the EFDSS Resource Bank, and will develop Continuing Professional Development, training, work shadowing, and mentoring opportunities for artists, music educators, and teachers working in or wishing to work in this area.

The Programme Manager will also contribute to funding applications to support the development of the programme, collaborate with the Education Manager on Youth Voice and youth folk showcasing initiatives, and work as Deputy Safeguarding Officer, including delivering safeguarding briefings. Overall, this position provides an excellent opportunity for an experienced and skilled music education manager to take a key role in the EFDSS Education team and contribute to the development and delivery of the National Youth Folk Ensemble programme.
