Bird: Music of Charlie Parker

Bird: Music of Charlie Parker

Saturday, 29 August 2020, 8.00pm

August 29th marks a significant centenary. It will be 100 years since the birth of jazz icon Charlie Parker.

It also marks 20 years since IMC released Ronan Guilfoyle’s BIRD album. Under the moniker Lingua Franca, that album was a celebration of the iconic music associated with Charlie Parker. It featured music written by him, jazz standards made famous by him and also original music dedicated to him.

To celebrate this important centenary, an equally stellar cast of Irish musicians will perform the BIRD album live in its entirety. Keeping it in the family and recreating the recorded format, Irish bassist Ronan Guilfoyle will be joined by Chris Guilfoyle on guitar, Conor Guilfoyle on drums (collectively known as 3G) while saxophone duties will be in the astutely capable hands of Chris Engel.

Parker, also referred to by his nickname, Yardbird, or simply ‘Bird’, was an American jazz saxophonist and composer. A highly influential soloist and leading figure in the development of bebop, Parker was a virtuoso and trailblazer who was instrumental in shaping modern jazz.

We do hope you’ll join us live for this concert at 8pm on Saturday August 29th. While we know that an online show is not the same as a live performance, we want to mark this important anniversary while presenting a great live show that you can enjoy safely from home. Your link will be valid for 24 hours in case you need to enjoy the show later, or simply want to watch again.
