Fealefest , Abbeyfeale County Limerick - as part of Call & Response Festival

Fealefest: Abbeyfeale September 11th

Throughout the month of September, the Local Creative Youth Partnership will coordinate a series of FREE youth arts events in Limerick. Call and Response is a music-led festival that will form trail of music and associated arts encounters throughout Limerick and Clare.

Fealefest, taking place on September 11th will see the West Limerick town of Abbeyfeale come to life with a number of events designed in an intergenerational context:
Masterclasses in concertina, fiddle, flute, banjo and accordion
Young trad musicians, at intermediate or advanced level, can experience a day of immersive masterclasses in banjo, flute, fiddle, concertina and accordion delivered by some of the country’s most respected musicians including Tim Collins, concertina, Murty Ryan, accordion, Marcus Moloney, banjo, Niall Murphy, fiddle and Michael King, flute. Workshops take place between 11am and 2.30pm at Limerick and Clare Education and Training Board’s Abbeyfeale FET Campus. Workshops are free and suited to young people aged 12 to 18 at intermediate or advanced level - places limited. Email [email protected] to book.

A Song for your Ear: September 11, 4-6pm
The community of Abbeyfeale is invited to come along to the courtyard of St. Ita’s Hall at 4pm on Saturday, September 11th to listen to songs and stories from members of the Traveller community. Anyone with a song or a story connected to Traveller music and cultural heritage, particularly with a Limerick flavour, will be more than welcome to come along. Artist and LCYP Facilitator, Maeve McGrath will be present to record and encourage young people to interview older relatives and singers about the music they remember from their youth. This event launches an audio project to record voices of young and old residents of Abbeyfeale. Presented in partnership with West Limerick Resources, Abbeyfeale Community College, St. Ita’s Parish and Limerick Youth Service. Light refreshments served.

Fealefest Concert, ONLINE event September 11, 8pm
On the evening of September 11th, the powerhouse that is Breaking Trad, featuring Donal Murphy, Niall Murphy and Mike Galvin make a welcome return to Abbeyfeale to bring a resounding close to Fealefest with their distinctive and energetic style. The group will be joined for this concert by some of Abbeyfeale’s most talented, emerging young musicians including Keavagh O’Donnell, Ella Murphy, Caoimhe Murphy, Ella Murphy, Marie Flynn and Emma Flynn. This intergenerational concert will be livestreamed from the Glórach Theatre at 8pm.
