Bilingua- previously unreleased solo album by Eithne Ní Uallacháin
This solo album of song and music is a tour de force and an enduring testament to the marvellously talented Eithne Ní Uallacháin (1957-1999). It is a fantastic odyssey into an ethereal world of memory and celebration. As a member of Lá Lugh, Eithne forged new interpretations of the Irish tradition. Bilingua took Eithne in a new direction, while creatively engaging with the tradition, she also composed new material of her own. The songs, in Irish and English, are given very contemporary arrangements by a host of musicians.
The CD is beautifully presented in a 40 page book which gives detailed biographical information and the background for each piece. The book, designed by Syd Bluett, incorporates tributes from a range of leading female singers, including Mary Black and Pauline Scanlon, all of whom testify to Eithne’s abiding influence on them.
Musicians featuring on the album include Gerry O’Connor, Dónal O’Connor, Giles Le Bigot, togetherwith string quartet arrangements by John Fitzpatrick.
Gael Linn published Eithne’s first album in 1987, Cosa gan Bhróga, with her husband Gerry O’Connor and Desi Wilkinson. We are honoured to publish this major solo album of an artist who left us all too soon. This album has long been eagerly awaited by devotees of Irish music - they will be delighted to find that it has been well worth the wait!
