Inside Outside

Friday, 4 February 2022, 7.00pm

The Linenhall Arts Centre will host a unique, outdoor experience on Friday, February 4th on Linenhall street. ‘Inside Outside’ is a musical celebration of the Linenhall’s historic building and its place in the heart of Castlebar for over 200 years.

To rejoice in recent restoration work and the building’s fascinating history, the Linenhall will bring audiences on a musical journey through the ages with some of Ireland’s finest artists. Curated by traditional artist, Emer Mayock from Mayo, you are invited to join Macdara Yeates (Storyteller), Louise Mulcahy (Uilleann Pipes/Flute), Paul Dooley (Early Irish Harp), Patrick Dexter (Cello), Nick Roth (Saxophone) in collaboration with Clare Island hand weaver Beth Ann Moran, and Michelle O' Rourke (Mezzo Soprano) for a concert of newly commissioned work commemorating the Linenhall’s long and varied history as a significant landmark in Castlebar.

Recent years have seen the exterior of the Linenhall undergo a series of restorations led by Siobhan Sexton, Architectural Conservation Officer with Mayo County Council and funded by Castlebar Municipal District in order to restore the facade to its former glory. The historic building has been through many reiterations in its 200 years. Starting off as a linen factory in 1790, it later transformed into a dance hall and finally, became the town’s beloved arts centre in 1990, as it stands today.

Print programmes will be available on the night featuring a specially commissioned introduction by Vincent Woods and artwork by Maeve Clancy.
