Poítin

Tuesday, 10 March 2020, 7.30pm

Poitín was the first feature film to be made entirely in Irish and it generated outrage when it first appeared on RTÉ in 1979 as some saw it as too grim a depiction of the oft idealised rural Ireland. It tells the story of two layabouts played by Donal McCann and Niall Tóibín and the poitin-brewer Micíl (Cyril Cusack) they work for. Set against a stoney, desolate background, things take a turn into dangerous conflict when the pair get the opportunity to steal Micíl’s poitín and sell it as their own.

Director: Bob Quinn
Stars: Cyril Cusack, Donal McCann & Niall Tóibín

Cert: 15A
