Music exploring the influence and legacy of Claudio Monteverdi

Monteverdi's music has been a regular feature in Sestina's performances since the ensemble's formation in 2011. This very special April tour will culminate in the group's first recording, and is a celebration of Monteverdi's music, as well as exploring his influences and legacy. Programme highlights include Monteverdi's Dixit Dominus (from Selva Morale et Spirituali 1640), Maria virgo a 10 by Giovanni Gabrieli and the little known Mass for 8 voices by Giovanni Rigatti, who was Monteverdi's pupil.

Featuring a spectacular ensemble of virtuoso early music specialists including cornetts, sackbutts, harp, theorbo and dulcian, alongside a choir of 20, this concert promises to deliver a huge variety of musical colours, from intimate a capella pieces to the glorious polychoral music of Monteverdi, Ingegneri and Gabrieli.

Following a successful crowdfundng campaign, Sestina is still fundraising for the production costs of their first recording, which will take place in Dublin following the final performance. You can support this project by making a donation (available on the ticket booking page), or by visiting our website (www.sestinamusic.com) to pre-order a CD and a wide selection of other rewards.
