Islander Presents: Live From Home with Maija Sofia, John Francis Flynn, Anna Mieke and Junior Brother – Digital Concert

Friday, 27 March 2020, 8.00pm

This Friday the 27th March, Islander: Live from Home will be streaming straight to you, directly from the homes of some of our favourite Irish artists. With sets from Maija Sofia, John Francis Flynn, Anna Mieke and Junior Brother, it will be a stunning showcase of some of the best musicians our country has to offer, all while in the coziness of your own home.

We are asking you to donate whatever you can, if you can, to these artists who have lost weeks of work, with events cancelled and weekly gigs gone. All donations will be split evenly between the artists.

Tune in from 8pm this Friday from the Facebook event here:

20:00 - Maija Sofia
20:30 - John Francis Flynn
21:00 - Anna Mieke

How I discovered this artist:

At festivals, though this was my first time listening to John Francis Flynn

Why I gave the above rating:

This was one of the first digital concerts that took place at the beginning of lockdown. I was really surprised by how many musicians adapted so quickly to not being able to perform live, and hosting these online performances instead. This gig with Maija Sofia, Anna Mieke, Junior Brother and John Francis Flynn was a great sample of current Irish indie-folk artists and provided an evening of wonderful music, despite the less than ideal audio visual quality at times. However, who can really point that out as a fault given the circumstances? A personal highlight was Mieke’s performance, as she had set up quite a professional looking home performance space, complete with proper microphone, a decent video stream and was accompanied by Brian MacGloinn from Ye Vagabonds. Junior Brother and Maija Sofia each gave endearing performances from their homes, as did John Francis Flynn. It was my first time listening to him perform and now I am just looking forward to seeing him perform live some day. A wave of digital concerts have come since this Islander event, and although they will never replace the live music experience, its a pretty decent replacement that can be enjoyed from your kitchen, living room, garden shed, or home concert hall of choice.
