Trio Gaspard @ West Wicklow Chamber Music Festival 2022
Frequently described as ‘refreshing’, Trio Gaspard’s performances are just the tonic for a mid-May evening. This highly sought-after piano trio has performed in the world’s leading concert halls and we couldn’t be happier that they’ll be adding West Wicklow to their busy performance schedule.
Their programme’s a sorbet for the soul too, serving up the fizzy wit and charm of Haydn for starters, and for dessert, Mendelssohn’s masterful second piano trio, which his contemporary Robert Schumann predicted would ‘years hence, will still delight our grandchildren and great-grandchildren.’
In between we’ll hear British composer Charlotte Bray’s fantasy piece inspired by Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream and Paul Juon’s Litanie, composed in the aftermath of the First World War.
Our world premiere from Sebastian Barry is the first of a two-part work called Ceiliúradh (celebration), which we’ve commissioned to reference the Decade of Centenaries and to celebrate the fantastic diversity of Irishness today. The second part of Ceiliúradh by Amanda Feery will be premiered at our ‘Winter Weekend’ in November.
