Sunday, 11 June 2023, 4.00pm

Paul McCann is a singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist from Cavan. Paul has played many high-profile gigs around the world including the Cavern Club in Liverpool, Nashville, multiple appearances at the Electric Picnic and much more. He has also performed with Rufus Wainwright, Pugwash, The Strypes, Nelson Bragg (Brian Wilson Band / Beach Boys) and Sandy Kelly, among others. Following many years of performing with numerous artists, Paul has been carving a solid solo career for himself since 2015. Following two acclaimed EPs, The Magician (2015) and Beginning to End (2017), and the wonderful murder ballad single, Widow Maker Blues, he released his debut album, Here Comes the Rapture, in 2018.

With his second album titled Alter Ego, released in February 2023, Paul chronicled his grief following the sudden death of his father in late 2018. Where previously he had played most of the instrumentation himself, the format of the second album is somewhat different and features guest appearances from a number of high-profile musicians including Jason Falkner (St. Vincent, Beck, Paul McCartney), Roger Joseph Manning Jr (Beck, Jellyfish, Air), Sylvie Lewis, Charlotte Hatherley (Ash, Bat for Lashes), Gary Lucas (Jeff Buckley, Captain Beefheart) and many others.

The album was snapped up by the Kool Kat Musik record label in the US and has been receiving universal praise from reviewers around the globe. Shindig! Magazine awarded it 5/5 calling the album “Stunning”, whilst Tony Clayton-Lea said in The Irish Times: “McCann’s new album continues his pursuit of the perfect pop song and, by and large, he captures it. McCann has such an assured touch only crusty killjoys would hesitate to hum along”. The Divine Comedy’s Neil Hannon wrote to Paul to compliment the album saying: “Really good record. Well done sir. I only wish I had a voice as pure and serene as yours!”
