Trad@Lunch: Joanna Sweeney, Peter Gallagher and Paddy Hazelton

Patrick Hazleton was born in Uganda and has been in Ireland since 1992. From a young age he has been playing drums. At the age of 4, he was taught the bodhrán in Glencolmcile, Donegal. Throughout the years he has been playing Irish music and entered into competitions like the Siansa Geal Linn, and the Fleadh Ceoil and has managed to win.

A couple of years later as a member of the traditional group MOXIE he ended up on tv channels like TG4, BBC, and RTE (the Late Late Show). Patrick also had the privilege to collaborate with the BBC Symphony Orchestra and perform in the National Concert Hall Dublin. He toured Australia, America, Austria, Italy, and Vietnam and managed to play for the president of Vietnam. A couple of years on he was part of a of an Irish dance show called THE PRODIJIG performing back to back shows in Cork.

In 2018 he managed to go back to Uganda and perform for the ambassador of Ireland and Uganda on St. Patrick's day. He has sold many albums with his former band Moxie and is a member of IMRO. His style of drumming is an African-jazz style and he is grateful to have seen some of the amazing parts of the world with his music so far. He is only 32.

Peter Gallagher hails from Swinford Co Mayo and has been involved with music since his teens. He started off on the banjo but later transitioned to guitar. He initially competed in competition but later got more interested in the folk scene in Castlebar. He spent 10 years there establishing himself as a session musician. He has spent the last 7 years in Sligo studying music from the perspective of a backer mainly in the traditional genre. He also recorded an EP. He continues to grow as a musician and remains dedicated to his craft.

Joanna Sweeney is an Irish traditional musician & hails from Riverstown Co. Sligo. She has been playing music since the age of 6. Predominate instruments are whistle, bodhrán, fiddle & voice. Throughout her 20’s she travelled and worked extensively through Europe & South America and began to explore and play other genres of music, such as world & traditional indigenous styles and this really informed her tastes. She has spent the last 2 years at the Irish World Academy, University of Limerick where she has completed a Masters in Irish Traditional Music performance. She is currently researching the regional styles of North Connaught and is interested in performing/ recording projects which may arise as a result.
