Wednesday, 1 April 2020, 1.15pm

Theatre 2, 1.15pm

Performers: Matthew Noone, Ryan Molloy, Mel Mercier

This concert is a performance based presentation of Matthew’s postdoctoral research into composition and hybridity. This performance will incorporate improvisation using a custom built Indian lute, gamelan, voice, piano and electronics. The pieces have been devised in collaboration with three other composers: Ryan Molloy (Maynooth), Dan Trueman (Princeton) and Mel Mercier (Irish World Academy).

Professor Mel Mercier is the Chair of Performing Arts at the Irish World Academy. He is a sound artist, composer and performer specializing in Irish Traditional Music, Ethnomusicology, Javanese Gamelan, Indian Classical Music and Ewe Dance Drumming (Ghana).

As a composer and performer, Dr Ryan Molloy’s work has been performed to international audiences on four continents for over fifteen years, including major concert venues such as Lucerne Hall, KKL (Switzerland), Kölner Philharmonie (Germany), National Concert Hall (Ireland), Holywell Music Room (England) and Ulster Hall (N. Ireland). In great demand as an accompanist, he has recorded over a dozen albums and his repertoire spans numerous genres from traditional Irish music to contemporary classical music.

Admission is free and all are welcome.
