The Royal College of Music (RCM) is seeking a new Director as Professor Colin Lawson steps down after nearly twenty years of successful leadership. RCM, which trains talented musicians from around the world for international careers, is currently ranked as the global number one institution for performing arts in the 2023 and 2022 QS World University Rankings by Subject.

The incoming Director will be responsible for setting the strategic direction and vision for the College, with the approval of the Council, and managing the College’s resources. The Director will ensure that RCM continues to develop its excellent global reputation, positioning, and profile as the leading conservatoire within its UK and international peer group.

Ideal candidates for the role will be inspirational and visionary leaders with a high level of knowledge and credibility in the world of music. They should be able to serve as outstanding ambassadors for the College and the future of music. The new Director will need to be strategic, helping the College navigate the challenges facing the conservatoire sector in the coming years. Candidates should have a strong commitment to supporting students and a track record in promoting equity, diversity, inclusion, and access.
