MIKKO JOENSUU
We are delighted to welcome Mikko Joensuu to Cafe Oto for his first headline London show. Mikko is a Finnish musician inspired by devotional music and American folk songs. He recently released the Amen Trilogy - a 3 part debut record:

“These are personal albums,” reveals Mikko, explaining his inspirations. “Personal emotions run through these albums. One main thing is depression, the darkness that people sometimes go through. The other thing is the religious aspect of my life. I was raised in a Pentecostal Christian home and surroundings. I grew up to be the person I am through that and I had to ask what is the concept of God, and how we ease our pain finding places which comfort us. These were big themes. Yet I didn’t think about them when I was writing the songs and didn’t specifically want to write songs about them. Then, in 2013, I realised these were the themes: when I say goodbye to the depression, my dilemmas with the idea of God and giving up on the idea that there actually is one.”

GRIMM GRIMM
London-based singer-songwriter experimentalist Koichi Yamanoha has been operating under the guise of Grimm Grimm since 2013. The project is an outlet for his fragile, otherworldly forays into baroque folk, futurist lyricism and electroacoustic oddities. Born in Tokyo, Yamanoha’s first solo record, ‘Kazega Fuitara Sayonara’, was released in late 2014 via Kevin Shields and Charlotte Marionneau’s Pickpocket Records / Honest Jon’s. This was followed up with his debut album, ‘Hazy Eyes Maybe’, on ATP Recordings in 2015. His sophomore album, ‘Cliffhanger’ was released in June 2018 and it has been in the process of development since, capturing the intimate confessions, which have made Yamanoha’s live performances both tender and intense at the same time.

DEE SADA
Multi-instrumentalist Dee Sada has created an eclectic and diverse collection of music over the last 10 years in percussive noise band, An Experiment On A Bird In The Air Pump, experimental duo, Blue On Blue and performance art band ORAL ORAL. Dee released her first solo EP Fragments in 2015 and has been working on a full length follow up on guitar and piano.

Of Nepalese/South Indian background, London-based Dee grew up in a household filled with Indian devotional music particularly the likes of classical singers MS Subbulakshmi and KJ Yesudas. She also grew up in Kuwait and Saudi Arabia which inspired her love of female folk singers such as Ibtisam Lutfi. Dee is also a curator and organised a number of events at Cafe Oto featuring artists such as Carolee Schneemann, Luke Fowler and Andrea Luka Zimmerman.
