The RTÉ Concert Orchestra, as part of its 75th-anniversary celebrations, is set to perform 'The Delta Blues Project' at the UCD Festival. The event, scheduled for Sunday, 11th June at O'Reilly Hall, UCD, Dublin, will feature Academy Award-winning actor Morgan Freeman serving as the honorary Master of Ceremonies.
The event is a collaboration with the US-based jazz and blues entrepreneur, David O’Rourke. The performance will showcase songs from blues musicians such as Robert Johnson, John Lee Hooker, and BB King, alongside music from those inspired by the blues genre, including Ray Charles and Eric Clapton.
The concert will be divided into two parts. The first segment will spotlight music by acclaimed trumpeter Jeremy Pelt, recognised as 'Trumpeter of the Year' by the Jazz Journalists Association. His latest album, The Art of Intimacy Volume 2: His Muse, achieved the top spot in the jazz charts this year.
The second part of the performance will feature music from the Mississippi Delta, with contributions from blues vocalist and guitarist Anthony ‘Big A’ Sherrod, well-known drummer Lewis Nash, and award-winning pianist Caili O’Doherty.
