LONGING: Sharon Carty, John Finucane & Finghin Collins

Thursday, 17 November 2022, 8.00pm

Feelings of nostalgia and longing pervade the music of this beautiful programme for clarinet, voice, and piano, which draws together three of Ireland's most versatile and acclaimed musicians: Sharon Carty (mezzo-soprano), John Finucane (clarinet), and Finghin Collins (piano).

Johannes Brahms, Sonata for Clarinet and Piano in E flat, Op. 120, No. 2
Anne-Marie O’Farrell, Music of the Hours
Muriel Herbert / Rebecca Clarke, Songs (settings of poems by W.B. Yeats & James Joyce)
Louis Spohr, Six German Songs
W.A. Mozart, "Parto, parto" from La Clemenza di Tito

From the rhapsodic opening bars of Brahms's late clarinet sonata to Mozart's operatic fireworks, the programme also includes Louis Spohr's deeply passionate German songs, and miraculous settings of Yeats and Joyce poems by Muriel Herbert and Rebecca Clarke. At the centre of the programme is Music of the Hours, a new work for clarinet and piano by Irish composer Anne-Marie O'Farrell which reflects on the experience of praying the monastic hours. Part of a nationwide tour, this programme is not to be missed!

Tickets (€20 full price / €10 student concession) are available at eventbrite.ie (link below).
