The National Centre for Early Music (NCEM) and BBC Radio 3 invite young composers resident in the UK, up to and including the age of 25, to participate in the NCEM Young Composers Award 2024. The competition is open to two age categories: 18 and under, and 19–25.

Participants are asked to compose a polyphonic motet for SSATB voices, setting the text ‘Mirabile mysterium’ either in its original Latin or an English translation. The composition should be for a cappella (unaccompanied) vocal group. Detailed terms and conditions, including the text, are available on the NCEM website.

Registration closes at 12 noon on Friday, 16 February, with the final submission deadline for scores set for 12 noon on Friday, 15 March. Shortlisted candidates will be notified by Friday, 12 April and invited to attend the Award Day in York on Thursday, 16 May. NCEM will cover all travel and accommodation expenses for this event.

To apply, registrants must complete a two-stage process: firstly, registering their interest by the specified deadline to receive an application form link, and then submitting the completed application form along with their score by the final deadline.
