Donnacha Dennehy PADDY (2003)
Donnacha Dennehy Overstrung (2010)
Donnacha Dennehy Limina – a piano chamber concerto (2023) [World Premiere]

An evening celebrating the innovative and versatile Irish new music group Crash Ensemble, with a programme of solo works by Donnacha Dennehy alongside the world premiere of his Limina – a piano chamber concerto written for pianist Eliza McCarthy.

Ensemble founder and Guggenheim fellow Donnacha Dennehy’s ‘thrilling’ (The Guardian), and ‘arrestingly beautiful’ (The New Yorker) music has featured at festivals and venues worldwide. This performance draws together the vibrant, textural harmonies of his Overstrung (2010) for amplified acoustic violin and soundtrack with the rhythmic explosions of PADDY (2003) for solo percussion, and culminates in a visceral new concerto for piano and chamber ensemble that explores physiological thresholds.

Overstrung was originally written for Monica Germino and commissioned by Gaudeamus Muziekweek/Muziek Centrum Nederland and Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival.

Limina was commissioned by Eliza McCarthy, with funds from the Arts Council of Ireland, and Contemporaneous in New York.
