A vivid energy
The debut album from Belfast rock act Careerist is an intriguing insight into the band, which made me keen to see them perform live. Released by label Pizza Pizza Records, Careerist are at home with acts like Just Mustard, Larry and Elephant (it seems the label is carefully carving its niche). The nine-track album is an alternative rock record. At times, it's heavy, with wailing guitar and ever-present distortion and pedal effects, on opening track 'Negative One', for example, and other tracks show the band's indie influence (albeit on the heavier side), with tracks like 'Weight' and 'Ring of Hands', which reminded me a little of The Divine Comedy. Contemporaries of this emerging Belfast act are bands like Fangclub and THUMPER. I look forward to getting the opportunity to see Careerist play live as their style of play emits a vivid energy that I think would translate well on stage.
