‘And they're off! Leopardstown launch the SPIN 1038 Student Race Day

Wednesday, 6 April 2022, 12.30pm

Ireland’s biggest and longest running student day returns to Leopardstown Racecourse on Wednesday April 6, with a packed programme of horse racing, entertainment, and fantastic live music from Riff Shop.

The SPIN1038 Student Race Day at Leopardstown has been a sold-out event in recent years, with ten thousand third level students enjoying one of the most exciting days out on the student calendar.

Now enjoying its tenth year, the SPIN1038 Student Race Day is an all-ticket event and pre-purchase is required. Gates open at 12.30pm and the race card will feature eight races during the day, with the first race off at 2.30pm, while entertainment off the track will include dating games, a 360° Photo Booth and a best dressed gal and guy competition. Tickets will become available in three tiers, the first on sale from Monday March 7.

Crowd favourites Riff Shop will headline the marquee after racing. Having emerged from Dublin’s nightclub scene 6 years ago, the trio have been steadily growing an acclaimed international reputation. The band have played Electric Picnic and the IMRO Radio Awards and 2022 is set to be their biggest year yet with dates in Ibiza, Marbella, London and Nice. Combining percussion with DJ mixing, sax and Jamaican Steel Pan, Riff Shop have wowed audiences with floor-filling tunes and already have established a huge student following in Ireland.

“We’re really excited about the return of SPIN1038 Student Race Day, particularly as it’s the biggest student day out in the country, with 10,000 students due to come," said Tim Husbands, Chief Executive of Leopardstown Racecourse. "It’s a great opportunity to introduce our sport to a brand new generation of budding horse racing fans through a fun and accessible race day. I must also thank SPIN1038 for again sponsoring the day, we’re delighted to have them back again in 2022.”

The SPIN1038 Student Race Day comes hot on the heels of a hugely successful Dublin Racing Festival that saw almost 25,000 people enjoy a great weekend of racing and precedes the return of another fantastic Bulmers Live at Leopardstown series, with a number of acts due to be revealed very soon.

Assistant Programming Director, Nick Karkazis says, “We are absolutely buzzing to have SPIN1038’s Student Race Day back. It’s one of Ireland’s biggest student events of the year and we are pumped to be involved! We’ve gone two years too long without partying with our listeners and we can’t wait to welcome them back!”

Leopardstown Racecourse is only 20 minutes from Dublin City Centre, and just a short walk from the Sandyford Luas Station (Green Line). Leopardstown Racecourse will be operating a FREE shuttle bus service from Sandyford Luas to the racecourse on the day.

This is an over 18’s only event. ID will be required to gain entry.
