Visitors to Crawford on the June bank holiday are in for a treat on Sunday 5 June when  Guitar Plus perform in the Gallery’s iconic Long room.
A selection of MTU Cork School of Music’s most talented students are lined up for performances amidst the visually arresting collection exhibition  Botanica: The Art of Plants, which runs until 18 September.  Guitar Plus is a collective of Senior Classical Guitar Students and graduates of the MTU Cork School of Music. The Guitar Orchestra includes: Sara Corkery, Victoria Pierce, Robert Keating, John Ahern, Tadhg Cunningham, Eoin McDermott and Brian Sheridan. The performance is directed by Jerry Creedon.
The performance will also include special guest 12 year old Claudia Duffy, a brilliant young classical guitarist, who studies with Jerry Creedon at the MTU Cork School of Music. Claudia won the Junior Classical Guitar under 16 Competition at the Feis Ceoil in Dublin recently, having already won the Junior Classical Guitar under 12 Competition in 2021.
Claudia has been praised by adjudicator and International Performer, Craig Ogden, for the strong sense of musicality that comes through in her playing as well as her strong sound and attention to detail.
Claudia also won the MTUCSM Junior Recital competition earlier this year. The Committed 12 year old travels up to MTU CSM every week from her home in Dingle,  West Kerry where she is in 6th class in Ballyferriter NS.
Jerry Creedon senior lecturer comments “Claudia is hugely committed  in undertaking such a journey weekly not to mention the amount of time committed to rehearsing , her achievements are richly deserved. We are delighted that the educational reach of MTU Cork School of Music is extensive particularly in the counties of Cork and Kerry”.

Dyane Hanrahan, Marketing and Communications Manager at Crawford is “delighted to have music back in the Galleries and if the response to last month’s MTU School of Music performance is anything to go by Guitar plus and Claudia Duffy will be a real musical treat for all visitors particularly amongst the artworks in  Botanica: The Art of Plants. Visitors are sure to be swept away!”.
