The Royal Albert Hall is set to host the First Night of the BBC Proms 2023 on Friday, 14th July 2023 at 7:00 pm. The event marks the beginning of the 2023 BBC Proms season, commencing with a series of Nordic delights including Grieg’ Piano Concerto and Sibelius’s rousing statement of national identity, Finlandia. Additionally, the concert will feature Britten’s The Young Person’s Guide to the Orchestra, which introduces each section of the orchestra from strings to timpani and is filled with memorable tunes for all ages.

Furthermore, the evening will showcase a world premiere from Ukrainian composer Bohdana Frolyak. The concert programme includes Sibelius’s Finlandia (8’), Bohdana’s Let There Be Light (5’), Grieg’s Piano Concerto in A minor (30’), Sibelius’s Snöfrid (14’), and Britten’s The Young Person’s Guide to the Orchestra (18’).

Pianist Paul Lewis will perform alongside the BBC Symphony Chorus, BBC Symphony Orchestra, BBC Singers, and conductor Dalia Stasevska. The event will also be broadcast on BBC TV.
