Lecturer - Instrumental Music Education
The Aaron Copland School of Music, Queens College, City University of New York (CUNY) invites applicants for a Lecturer in Instrumental Music Education, full-time position to begin fall 2020.
The successful candidate will teach undergraduate and graduate courses in music education including instrumental, brass, and woodwind methods, and instrumental conducting. The candidate will also coordinate student teaching placements and develop professional relationships with nearby pre-K to 12 instrumental teachers. The position includes service on department, divisional, and college committees as appropriate, and conducting an instrumental ensemble.
We seek an individual with a strong commitment to teaching and an ability to work with diverse student populations. While research and publication are not requisites for the position, they are looked upon favorably by the college, and are used in determining eligibility for a Certificate of Continuing Employment, which is available after five years of service. The successful candidate will be expected to participate in scholarly activity and professional organizations for music education. This position has a teaching load of 4 courses per semester, including administrative duties.

Applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree in music education (or a related field), demonstrated successful K-12 instrumental music teaching experience, and evidence of successful college teaching and conducting.
Preferred qualifications include a post bachelor’s degree in Music Education, Instrumental Conducting, or another appropriately related terminal degree. Special consideration will be given to candidates who demonstrate experience with fieldwork placements and supervision, edTPA preparation, technology in music education, jazz or world music, and/or work with children with exceptionalities and/or children of diverse ethnicities and cultural backgrounds.
