Berklee College of Music invites nominations and applications for the position of Assistant Chair of the Ensemble Department.
The Ensemble Department includes 50 department faculty and 100 adjunct faculty providing nearly 500 ensembles and performance classes to over 3,000 Berklee students. Also included is intensive training in reading and interpreting music from traditionally notated scores, chord-symbol lead sheets, and by ear. Special emphasis is given to stylistic interpretation, musicianship, improvisational skills, and overall performance skills as applied to contemporary musical styles. An ideal candidate is well organized, creative, collaborative, and forward think, as well as well versed in multiple musical styles.
The candidate should be an excellent musician, experienced educator as well as an effective administrator with a background of successful employment in a collegiate setting. Thorough understanding of contemporary musical styles and national recognition as a musician are essential. A Master’s degree or equivalent professional experience is required. This is a twelve-month position with a renewable contract. The start date for the position is September 1, 2019, or earlier depending on availability.
