African Guitar Workshop Series

Jump into the exciting world of African guitar music through West African ethnic Malian styles & Desert blues, Congolese Soukous, Tanzanian rhythms and S. African Xhosa.

Over six group workshops we will explore accompaniment & Improvisation, African approaches to rhythm & polyrhythm, plectrum & fingerstyle techniques, with the aim of bringing these principles into our own playing and composing. All levels are welcome!

Dates are August 5th - September 9th each Saturday from 11am-1.30pm in Dublin 2.

Paddy Groenland is an Irish guitarist who has performed & recorded with Sidiki Dembele, Manden Express, Niwel Tsumbu, Ensemble Eriu, Loah, Fehdah, Danny G & the Major 7ths and Eurovision winning songwriter Luisa Sobral. In 2008 he was awarded a Fulbright Scholarship to Berklee College of Music, Boston and in 2017 he spent 2 months researching West African music in Bamako, Mali as part of his Global music studies at the Sibelius Academy, Helsinki.
