Summer Jazz at Glebe House and Gallery

‘Summertime and the livin’ is easy …’ The elegant strains of the George Gershwin classic will surely echo around the shores of Lough Gartan when Glebe House and Gallery, Churchill.

The concert series, which continues weekly until Saturday August 26th, takes place in a wonderfully appointed new performance space that is Glebe House and Gallery’s recently opened, outdoor ‘Ancient Classroom’.

The concerts are FREE of Charge but Advance Booking at Eventbrite– Jazz at the Glebe Tickets is required to guarantee admission. Although there is good chance if you bring a fold out seat you shale accommodated regardless of booking.

The series has been put together by Paul McIntyre, son of the legendary Derry saxophone and clarinet player, Gay McIntyre, who sadly passed away in 2021. Each week Paul will be joined by a different ensemble of musicians, featuring the crème de la crème of Irish and visiting performers, including guitarists Phil Robson, Mike Neilsen and Marco Tindiglia (Italy), bassists Daniel Bodwell and Falcarragh’s own Conor Murray, and drummers Shane O’Donovan, Enzo Zirilli (Italy) and New York-based Darren Beckett, who has worked with Van Morrison, Madeleine Peyroux, Daniel Lanois, Beth Orton, Lauryn Hill and Brandon ‘Mr. Brightside‘ Flowers, among many others.

Each Saturday night audiences will enjoy modern interpretations of jazz classics from the Great American Songbook – including the music of Cole Porter, the aforementioned George Gershwin, Thelonious Monk, Sonny Rollins, Kenny Dorham and more - as well as contemporary compositions written and performed by some of the visiting performers.

The Summer Jazz series at Glebe House and Gallery has been made possible through the invaluable support of the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media’s After Hours Nighttime Economy Support Scheme and the Office of Public Works. The After Hours support scheme enables designated galleries and museums throughout Ireland to develop nighttime cultural programmes outside of their normal opening hours, that support artists and that boost and add further variety to the local entertainment scene.
