Arts Council Announces €12.8m in Arts Grant Funding

163 arts organisations and 20 individual artists funded from 217 applications.

The Arts Council has announced its funding decision under the Arts Grant scheme. A total of €12.8m has been awarded to 163 arts organisations and 20 individual artists, from 217 applications.

The scheme is one of the largest run by the Council and supports arts activity and programmes throughout the country. It covers all art forms, from architecture to opera.

In the music, opera and traditional arts categories, €2.2m was awarded. Among the recipients are the new traditional arts resource organisation Trad Ireland/Traid Éireann (€22,350), which recently published a report on the challenges facing the sector; the new arts venue in Conamara, Stiúideo Cuan, which is set to open this November (€40,000), resource organisation Harp Ireland/Cruit Éireann (€100,000), record label Ergodos (€32,000), the Finding A Voice festival of female composers (€32,000), St Patrick’s Festival (€40,000), Kirkos ensemble (€57,000), Lismore Music Festival (€144,327) and New Music Dublin (€260,000). The Journal of Music has received an offer of funding of €75,000. In the young people and children category, the Cross Border Orchestra of Ireland has been offered €100,000.

Commenting on the funding, Maureen Kennelly, Director of the Arts Council, said:

The breadth and range of applications is truly inspiring to see. Artists and organisations have suffered disproportionately through the pandemic and it is heartening to see the resilience of the arts sector. It is also encouraging to know that while we support these 20 artists and 163 organisations, they will in turn create thrilling new work and support the public as we recover together. Their work is increasingly representative of the rich diversity of contemporary Ireland. The talent represented in these organisations and individual artists is world class and their ambition and confidence is a source of enormous pride to the Arts Council.
