The National String Quartet Foundation has been offered funding of €70,000 for 2021 under the Arts Council's Arts Grant Funding scheme.

Arts Council Announces €1.76m in Funding for Music, Opera and Traditional Arts

Journal of Music granted funding of €64k for 2021.

The Arts Council has announced the results of the Arts Grant Funding programme for 2021. A total of 166 arts organisations and artists across all art forms have been offered total funding of €9.98m.

This is a €2.5m increase overall on last year, a result of the recent increase in arts funding from the government. In total, 166 applications out of 194 were successful, including 42 that were not funded in 2019.

Among the recipients are 36 music, opera and traditional arts organisations and artists that have received grant offers totalling €1.76m. They include New Music Dublin (€238k), Louth Contemporary Music (€87k), Harp Ireland/Cruit Éireann (€80.5k), the Séamus Ennis Cultural Centre (€77k), Resurgam (€73k), and the National String Quartet Foundation (€70k).

The Journal of Music has received a grant offer of €64k.

Commenting on the funding announcements, Arts Council Director Maureen Kennelly said:

This investment is a vote of confidence by the Arts Council in these artists and arts organisations. Because of Covid-19, no one can predict accurately what performances, exhibitions or other art work will look like in 2021, but we know that artists and arts organisations will continue to create great work for the public, despite the current extreme challenges. These awards will create work opportunities for freelance artists and arts workers across all art forms, which is critical at this time of crisis.
