Conference on the Role of the Arts in Language Planning

Musicians Mairéad Ní Mhaonaigh and Peadar Ó Riada to speak at two-day conference.

An international conference on the role of the arts in language-planning will take place in Na Forbacha in County Galway on Thursday 17 and Friday 18 September. The programme includes presentations on models of best practice by visitors from Scotland, Wales, the Basque Country and Friesland in The Netherlands.

Musicians Mairéad Ní Mhaonaigh and Peadar Ó Riada and organisations from Ireland will also share their experiences, presenting insights on how the arts can play a role in language-planning on the ground. The keynote address will be given by former Director General of RTÉ and Founding Commissioner of TG4, Cathal Goan.

Minister of State for the Gaeltacht, Joe McHugh TD, Language Commissioner Ronán Ó Domhnaill, Arts Council Director Orlaith McBride, and Príomhfheidhmeannach of Údarás na Gaeltachta, Steve Ó Cúláin, will also contribute.
