Dublin International Piano Competition Announces Quarter-Finalists for 2025
The Dublin International Piano Competition (DIPC) has announced the 28 pianists who have qualified for the 2025 quarter-finals. The 13th edition of the triennial competition will take place in Dublin from 9 to 16 May.
The competition hosted auditions in December, with 189 pianists performing either online or at the Royal Irish Academy of Music (RIAM). The first round then involved fifty-nine invited video recital submissions that were evaluated by a jury comprising pianists Anne-Marie McDermott, Katie McGuinness, Noriko Ogawa, Michel Béroff, Piers Lane and Finghin Collins.
For the quarter-finals, competitors will perform a 40-minute solo recital that will include one of four short contemporary pieces by Irish composers David Coonan, Roger Doyle, Ailís Ní Ríain and Judith Ring. The works were specially commissioned by RTÉ Lyric FM for the competition.
Commenting on the quarter-finalists announcement, Finghin Collins, Artistic Director of the DIPC and Chair of the jury, said:
The quarter-finalists have demonstrated exceptional artistry, technique, and individuality in their video submissions. We look forward to welcoming them to Dublin this May, where they will bring our competition to life with their talent and passion.
The addition of the commissioned contemporary works promises to add a dynamic and modern edge to the quarter-final performances, and I look forward to the creativity the competitors will bring to these pieces.
