€10k Available for Traditional Music Commissions

€10k Available for Traditional Music Commissions

€12k available for music commissions and €35k for opera commissions.

The Arts Council’s traditional arts, music and opera commissions will open for applications in less than four weeks on 2 April. The deadline for proposals is one month later on 2 May.

The purpose of the awards is to support the fees paid to artists for commissions for new work. The commission must lead to some form of outcome, such as a public performance, engagement with a community or another other form of dissemination in Ireland or abroad.

For the traditional arts award – which includes traditional music, song, dance or oral arts such as agallamh beirte – the award also supports collaboration between traditional arts and other artforms.

€10k is available for traditional arts commissions, €10k for music commissions and €35k for opera commissions.

Previous commissions under the three schemes include Buille Shuibhne, a work for uilleann pipes and string quartet commissioned by David Power; The Space Between, a work composed by Swiss composer Jürg Frey and commissioned by Louth Contemporary Music Society; and a work by Jennifer Walsh commissioned by the Borealis festival in Norway.
