€12,000 Available for Music Commissions

Deadline for music and traditional arts commissions is 18 February.

Up to €12,000 is available from the Arts Council for new music commissions under the Music Commissions Award. The deadline for applications is Thursday 18 February.

The purpose of the Music Commissions Award is to facilitate partnerships between a range of commissioners and composers and to support the fees paid to artists.

Previous commissions under the scheme include Slouching Towards Bethlehem by Ian Wilson commissioned by the Cork International Choral Festival, a work for violin and piano by Gerald Barry commissioned by Mary Dullea and Darragh Morgan, and Nimbus by Sam Perkin commissioned by the Irish Chamber Orchestra.

There is also a separate award for traditional arts commissions. The maximum amount awarded will be €10,000 and the deadline is also 18 February. 

Previous commissions under this scheme include works by Peadar Ó Riada commissioned by Gael Linn and Iontaoibheas Fódhla, and a traditional arts suite for children by Thomas Johnston commissioned by Scoil Cheoil na Botha.
