€252k Announced for Music, Traditional Arts and Opera Festivals

Recipients include Cork International Choral Festival, Great Music in Irish Houses Festival, Blackwater Valley Opera Festival, Cos Cos Sean-Nós Festival and Scoil Cheoil an Earraigh; Touring 2020 awards also announced.
 

The Arts Council has recently published its funding decisions under Round 1 of the Festivals Investment Scheme. The scheme applies to festivals taking place between January and June of this year.

€252,420 was awarded to 31 festivals in the traditional arts, music and opera categories. Among the recipients are Cork International Choral Festival and Great Music in Irish Houses Festival in the music section, Scoil Cheoil an Earraigh and Cos Cos Sean-Nós Festival in the traditional arts section, and Blackwater Valley Opera Festival under opera.

The Arts Council also recently published the details of its Touring 2020 awards. Recipients include Ceol Connected who this February will tour The Far Field, a traditional arts performance for young audiences; Catriona O’Leary’s Red Book of Ossory project which will tour in March; West Ocean String Quartet who will also tour in March; Jazz on the Terrace, who will tour the Conor Guilfoyle Octet playing the music of Miles Davis in March and April; Sestina Music ensemble who will tour in April; singer Pauline Scanlon who will tour in May; and the My Father’s Kind show which features traditional musicians and writer Dermot Bolger and will also tour in May.
