Following a call for applications in February, the Arts Council has recently announced four new traditional arts commissions totalling €30,000.

The Maureen Fleming Dance Foundation has received €9,100 to commission Colm Mac Con Iomaire to write music for a production titled Wildflower. It will be presented in autumn 2018 in New York.

Oidhreacht Chorca Dhuibhne has received €8,200 to commission new agallaimh beirte and lúibíni. These spoken and sung works will be taught to children through school schemes in Gaeltacht areas in Kerry, Cork and Waterford.

Finally, Leitrim County Council has been awarded €3,600 to commission dancer Edwina Guckian, fiddle-player Danny Diamond and poet Vincent Woods to develop a new work that merges traditional Irish music, sean-nós dance and the spoken word. It will premiere at the Iron Mountain Literature Festival in October 2017.

12 applications were received. The panellists were Seosamh Ó Neachtain, Zoë Conway and Dermot McLaughlin.
