Arvo Pärt

Irish and UK premiere of Arvo Pärt Work in Belfast, Dublin & Limerick

Chamber Choir Ireland to perform 'Kleine Litanei'.

Chamber Choir Ireland will tour a programme of music inspired by the Orthodox Church this summer, in Belfast, Dublin and Limerick on 20–22 June and in Kilkenny on 19 August.

At the centre of the programme of spiritual music will be the Irish and UK premiere of Arvo Pärt’s 2015 Kleine Litanei (Small Litany), a homage to Irish-born Benedictine monk St Virgil.

Watch conductor Paul Hillier discuss The Orthodox Spirit programme below:

Also on the programme is music by Galina Grigorjeva, Igor Stravinsky, Vasily Titov and Alfred Schnittke, plus examples of 17th-century Russian Orthodox chant. These chants feature in Rachmaninov’s 1915 All Night Vigil, selections of which will be performed in the concerts.

The concert details are 20 June (St Thomas’ Church, Belfast, 7:30pm), 21 June (Christ Church Cathedral, Dublin, 8pm), 22 June (St Mary’s Cathedral, Limerick, 8pm), and 19 August (The Black Abbey, Kilkenny, 10pm).
