Irish Representation in Huddersfield Short Series

Irish singer Michelle O'Rourke and cellist Kate Ellis have been selected to perform in the Huddersfield Short series in November, as part of the Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival.

The Irish mezzo-soprano, Michelle O'Rourke, and the cellist Kate Ellis, have been selected to perform in the Huddersfield Shorts series, which forms part of the Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival in November.

Five artists were selected to perform a Huddersfield Short concert this year — the curation is via an open application process. The concerts take place in various venues across Huddersfield on one day, Monday, 19 November.

O'Rourke and Ellis will perform two works by Irish composers — Judith Ring's To pull an eerie twist and an excerpt from Garrett Sholdice's opera Receuillement — as well as John Cage's Experiences No. 2. See a video of Ellis and O'Rourke rehearsing Ring's work below.

Other artists performing on the same day include Fabio Coomans and Elisa Medinilla with the music of Enno Poppe; the trio Allison/Herbert/Isaacs; improvisation group Horse Brawl; and Tamara Friebel and Gobi Drab with a piece by Friebel.

Ellis will also perform at the festival with Dublin's Crash Ensemble, ensemble-in-residence at this year's festival. Crash Ensemble programmes will include music by Glenn Branca, Nico Muhly, Arnold Dreyblatt and Donnacha Dennehy. For more about the residency see here
