Peter Tuite Appointed Head of Piano and Keyboard Instruments at Trinity Laban

Tuite replaces Deniz Gelenbe who recently retired.

Following the announcement in June that Trinity Laban in London was seeking a new Head of Piano and Keyboard Instruments due to the retirement of Deniz Gelenbe, Peter Tuite, formerly of the Royal Irish Academy of Music, has been appointed to the position.

Tuite was Head of the Keyboard Faculty at the RIAM and then Senior Dean. He has maintained an international career as a teacher and performer and recently performed Beethoven’s 3rd Piano Concerto with the RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra, and served on the jury of the International M.K. Čiurlionis Piano and Organ Competition.

Tuite studied at Trinity College Dublin and the Royal Irish Academy of Music and later under Benjamin Pasternak and Leon Fleisher at the Peabody Institute in the United States. He is a previous winner of the Chopin Prize at the Dublin International Piano Competition.

On his appointment, Tuite commented,

Trinity Laban is a place of innovation and tradition, of rigour, of excellence. I’m therefore delighted to be joining such a unique and prestigious institution, and in particular, the Piano and Keyboard Instruments department, which enjoys such an outstanding reputation as a world-leading centre for keyboard study. I’m really looking forward to working with so many gifted teachers and students alike, and to building on the terrific work of my predecessor Deniz Gelenbe.
