Podcast: COVID-19 – The Impact on Festivals

Every day, festival cancellations and postponements are being announced due to the COVID-19 pandemic. How are festivals managing the impact and what effect will have it on artists, the local economy and the sustainability of the festivals themselves?

In this week’s podcast, editor Toner Quinn speaks to four people who run music festivals in Ireland but who have had to cancel or postpone the event because of the COVID-19 pandemic. The contributors are Louise Tangney from Vantastival, Anna Lardi Fogarty from Music for Galway and Cellissimo, Elaine Fitzgerald from the Cork International Choral Festival and Declan McCarthy from Fiddle Fair.

The Journal of Music podcast is issued every Wednesday. Listen below on Soundcloud or on Apple Podcasts or Spotify. Recent topics include ‘COVID-19: What Now for Music and the Arts?’ which included contributions from fiddle-player and composer Colm Mac Con Iomaire, Angela Dorgan of First Music Contact and Ireland Music Week, Gerry Keenan of the Irish Chamber Orchestra and clarinettist Deirdre O’Leary of Crash Ensemble.
