Radio DJ Launches Petition for 'Irish Artist Music Week' on All Irish Stations

Campaign is a response to the current challenges faced by musicians during the pandemic.

A DJ on Galway local radio station Kinvara FM has launched a petition for an ‘Irish Artist Music Week’ on all Irish radio stations.

The petition is in response to the current challenges faced by musicians during the pandemic and as a result of the quality of music in the current scene.

The petition by DJ Ben McCormack is running on Change.org and is directed towards the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media. It reads:

Today, we are in a golden era for music being produced and released by Irish musicians and artists. The quality and variety of music being developed on this island of ours is second to none. Unfortunately, at the moment the opportunities for musicians to have their work appreciated is limited and compounded by the lack of Irish music being played on national radio and television stations.

The aim of the petition is to provide Irish artists with more radio exposure, contribute to artists’ income and to further develop an appreciation of Irish talent.

McCormack hosts The Ben McCormack Show on Kinvara FM, a two-hour show dedicated to Irish music. He was previously part of Limerick pop punksters The Hitchers.
