Bill Whelan / RTÉ NSO: Linen and Lace / Inishlacken / Riverdance: A Symphonic Suite

Over the years, Bill Whelan received many requests from orchestras for a full-length concert piece containing music from the Riverdance show. The result is Riverdance: A Symphonic Suite, released for the first time on the RTÉ Lyric FM label. Performed by the RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra, and conducted by David Brophy, it is accompanied by his 2014 flute concerto for Sir James Galway, Linen & Lace, and the double violin concerto, Inishlacken, performed by Helena Wood and Zoë Conway.

Martha Argerich & Sergei Babayan: Prokofiev for Two

Argerich and Babayan join forces to present the work of Prokofiev, transcribed for two pianos. With all transcriptions by Babayan himself, the album focusses on twelve movements from Romeo and Juliet, but also features short extracts from incidental music to Hamlet, Eugene Onegin and The Queen of Spades

Robin Ticciati and Scottish Symphony Orchestra: Brahms – The Symphonies

Conductor Ticciati marks his last season with the Scottish Chamber Orchestra with this ambitious release of Brahms’ four symphonies. The SCO first performed all symphonies in 2015/16, and have since performed them regularly – they are ‘a deeper, darker, more intense forest right at the end of our time’.

Renaud Capuçon: Bartók Violin Concertos Nos 1 & 2

Violinist Renaud Capuçon partners with the London Symphony Orchestra under Principal Guest Conductor François-Xavier Roth to record the two violin concertos by Bartók. Composed almost three decades apart, the works are highly contrasting.

Aimi Kobayashi: Chopin, Liszt

Japanese pianist Kobayashi releases her first album with Warner Classics, a recording of solo piano works by Chopin (Piano Sonata No. 2) and Liszt (Dante Sonata and 3 Petrarch Sonatas).
