RTÉ Radio 1 has announced the shortlist for the 2022 Folk Awards. There are seven awards, plus the Lifetime Achievement Award which will be announced at Vicar Street on 17 November, and an artist will also be inducted into the Hall of Fame.

Concertina player Cormac Begley has been shortlisted for four awards including Best Folk Album for B, Best Folk Instrumentalist, Best Original Folk Track for ‘To War’, and Best Traditional Folk Track for ‘Rolling in the Barrel / O’Neill’s March / Tralee Jail’. Singer Muireann Nic Amhlaoibh has received received three nominations including Best Folk Singer, Best Folk Album for Róisín Reimagined, and Best Traditional Folk Track for ‘Róisín Dubh’, and singer and multi-instrumentalist Cathal Ó Curráin has also been nominated for three awards including Best Folk Singer, Best Emerging Artist, and Best Traditional Folk Track for ‘Úrchnoc Chéin Mhic Cainte’.

Inni-K has been nominated for her album Iníon, Junior Brother for The Great Irish Famine, Ceara Conway for her track ‘An Caoineadh’, and Jessie Buckley and Bernard Butler for ‘Footnotes On The Map’. Best Folk Group nominees includes We Banjo 3, the olllam and The Alt (John Doyle, Nuala Kennedy, and Eamon O’Leary), and Best Emerging Artist nominees include Aisling Lyons, Alannah Thornburgh and Les SalAmandas (Julie O’Sullivan and Colyne Laverriere).

The awards ceremony will be presented by John Creedon and broadcast live on RTÉ Radio 1. Television highlights will be broadcast on RTÉ One on 21 November.
