Tribute to Liam O’Flynn at 'Tradition Now'

Festival taking place on 23–28 October to feature a performance of 'The Brendan Voyage'.

The National Concert Hall will host a tribute to the uilleann piper Liam O’Flynn as part of the Tradition Now festival this October. O’Flynn, who died in March, was renowned for his work with the group Planxty and as a soloist. Read our tribute here.

The concert on Sunday 28 October will feature a performance of Shaun Davey’s The Brendan Voyage – made famous by O’Flynn – with Mark Redmond on pipes and David Brophy conducting the RTÉ NSO. Seán Keane, Matt Molloy, Steve Cooney, Neil Martin, Iarla Ó Lionáird and more will also perform in the concert.

The five-day Tradition Now festival is a partnership with the Arts Council to highlight the Irish traditional music of today. The full line-up includes Donegal singer Rosie Carney, female quartet Landless, Iarla Ó Lionáird and Crash String Quartet performing a new commission by Kate Moore, fiddle-player Liam O’Connor with John Blake and Paddy McEvoy, Aoife Ní Bhriain with Florian Willeitner and Eoghan Ó Ceannabháin, and a Fair Plé concert titled ‘Freedom doesn’t Fall from the Sky’.
