Trinity College Announces Luxembourg Group as Ensemble-in-Residence

The music department of Trinity College, Dublin, has announced a Luxembourg ensemble as its ensemble-in-residence for the academic year 2013/2014. LUCILIN, built around a core of a string quartet, piano and percussion with additional instruments when required, was founded in 1999 and is dedicated to the performance of twentieth and twenty-first century works.

The ensemble follow the Irish piano trio Ensemble Avalon, who were the inaugural ensemble-in-residence from 2011 to this year. Ensemble Avalon contributed week-long workshops and coaching sessions with student composers as well as public performances at the Hugh Lane Gallery during their tenure.

The residency will continue to comprise performances and workshops throughout the academic year, beginning on Thursday, 17 October with a daytime workshop and an evening performance featuring four of the ensemble’s members. These events are open to the public and anyone wishing to attend the workshop should book in advance by emailing compcent [at] tcd.ie.

LUCILIN recently produced a concert of composer and TCD lecturer in composition Donnacha Dennehy’s music in Luxembourg, including a new commission titled dirty light. The following is a work by the Netherlands-based Australian composer Kate Moore commissioned by LUCILIN in 2011.
